Have you ever stopped to think about how your dog sees you?

If you've ever owned a dog—or formed a close bond with any pet—you know exactly what I'm talking about. You could leave the house for five minutes or come home after the longest, hardest day of your life, and they'll greet you with the same excitement every single time.

Their tail starts wagging, their whole body wiggles with happiness, and they look at you like you're the greatest person in the world.

It made me wonder...

What if we saw ourselves the way our dogs see us?

I honestly believe the world would be a happier place.

They See the Real You

Our dogs see us through every season of life.

They see us when we wake up with messy hair and dark circles under our eyes.

They see us with acne, wrinkles, and double chins.

They see us when we're crying on the kitchen floor after a bad day.

They see us when we're stressed, anxious, heartbroken, sick, or struggling financially.

They've witnessed our failures, our bad moods, our insecurities, and our lowest moments.

And yet...

They still look at us like we're the most amazing human they've ever known.

They don't care what size jeans we wear.

They don't care how much money is in our bank account.

They don't care whether we've accomplished everything on our to-do list.

They simply love us for who we are.

Imagine how different life would feel if we extended even a fraction of that unconditional love to ourselves.

The Stories We Tell Ourselves Matter

Many of us speak to ourselves in ways we'd never speak to someone we love.

"I'm so ugly."

"I'm so fat."

"I'm broke."

"I'm not smart enough."

"I'm always behind."

"I'm never going to succeed."

Over time, those thoughts become the stories we believe about ourselves.

The words we repeat shape our mindset, influence our confidence, and affect how we move through the world.

That's why it's so important to become aware of the conversations we're having with ourselves every day.

Go on a Mental Diet

One practice I've started is something I call a mental diet.

Just as we pay attention to the food we put into our bodies, we should also pay attention to the thoughts we feed our minds.

Every time I catch myself thinking or saying something negative, I pause and intentionally replace it with something more empowering.

Instead of saying:

  • "I'm so stressed."

Try saying:

  • "I'm learning how to stay calm."

Instead of:

  • "I'm broke."

Say:

  • "I'm building wealth."

Instead of:

  • "Nothing ever works out for me."

Try:

  • "Everything is working out for me, even if I can't see it yet."

The goal isn't to pretend life is perfect. It's to stop reinforcing the beliefs that keep you stuck and start creating beliefs that help you grow.

Speak Abundance Over Your Life

Your words carry power.

Start speaking to yourself with the same kindness your dog already believes you deserve.

Remind yourself every day:

  • I am beautiful.

  • I am happy.

  • I am calm.

  • I am confident.

  • I am healthy.

  • I am wealthy.

  • I am worthy.

  • I am capable.

  • I am limitless.

  • I am becoming the best version of myself.

  • I am a badass.

The more you repeat these truths, the more natural they'll begin to feel.

Borrow Your Dog's Perspective

The next time your dog runs to greet you at the door, pause for a moment.

Look at yourself through their eyes.

They don't see your flaws.

They don't see your mistakes.

They don't see your insecurities.

They see someone worth loving without conditions.

Maybe it's time you started seeing yourself that way, too.

Be kinder to yourself.

Speak life over yourself.

And love yourself the way your dog already does.
